Mom's Schooling

By Angel Bean

My mom is currently going to school online for communications. I honestly have never seen her so interested and involved in her studies before. This time she seems to be growing as a person as well as learning things academically and I really want that for her. She seems wiser and more centered on getting her education and bettering her life.

She has met great people online that have encouraged her and has made friends with people in her class online so she is just thriving there. The problem is I recently got suspended for fighting on my job. What happened was a man came over and just outright punched me three times in the arm and I hit him back and my job says that he will be suspended indefinitely and so am I for fighting even though I was only defending myself.

So the real moral dilemma here is do I use part of my last paycheck to help my mom with $210.00 so she can pay her phone and cable bill and continue going to school or do nothing since I have no income coming in from my job right now and no financial support from a spouse or anything like that.

Part of me wants to help her so badly because she did keep me in school even through a very rough childhood and teen years but another part of me wants to see if she gets her check from school and if they help her. Still it would hurt me to see her have a lapse in her education just because she didn't get her student loan check because she is just blossoming with this program.

I just don't know what to do. I do not live with my mother and maintain a separate residence from her so I have my own life and bills but it's like part of me wants to help her and part of me wants to say that charity begins at home. I am so torn by this. What do you think I should do?
