**********How to study hormones.
The way that you study hormones is simple for every hormone there is a hormone that decreases it when there is too much of it in the body.
I am going to pretend I am Howard Cosell for a minute and I am announcing two fighters in a ring only it is not Mohammad Ali vs. Leon Spinks it is one hormone going up against another. Okay.
So in this corner you have PTH going up against calcitonin.
And in this corner you have insulin going up against glucagon.
Insulin decreases blood glucose and glucagon decreases blood glucose.
Insulin breaks down sugars.
If you learn these hormones in pairs it is easy to see how the body wants to stay in homeostasis.
********Symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus will present itself with polydipsia which is increased thirst or polyphagia which is increased hunger or polyuria which is increased urination.
What do the ovaries produce? Estrogen and progesterone.
What produces estrogen? FSH follicle stimulating hormone in females stimulates to produce progesterone and estrogen.
What is Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus? It requires insulin.
What is Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus? This could be oral medication or insulin.
*******Other ways to study hormones for exams
